Doug Chase

Founder and Manager – Ascendancy Capital Management

Doug Chase is currently the Founder and Manager of Ascendancy Capital Management LLC.  The hedge fund it advises began operation in March 2008 and through September of 2012 had earned a return in excess of 145%, before fees, since inception.  After earning a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley and an MBA, with High Distinction, from the Michigan (Ross) Business School, Doug began his professional investing career as an Equity Analyst for Fidelity Investments.  While an analyst, he began managing his first mutual fund in 1994 and into 2002 he progressed through many analyst and portfolio manager assignments, including as an Assistant Manager on the Magellan Fund from 1997-1999, a fund that surpassed over $100 Billion in assets in 1999.  During these years, Doug managed or co-managed several funds rated four- and five-stars by Morningstar.  In 2002, Doug accepted a new challenge as the Co-Founder of the Boston Office for American Express Asset Management (now AmeriPrise).  Over time the co-founders of this office built out an administrative team, an analyst team of over twenty, had systems development in house, and added in-house trading capabilities.  At one point Doug was simultaneously managing 11 long-only funds and co-managing a $400M hedge fund.  Doug later served on the Board of Directors/Advisors for three private companies, while also developing and teaching a course for the MBA program at Ross beginning in 2007.  In 2010 Doug was made an Adjunct Professor by Ross, and he tries to lecture on campus at least once per year.


Brian S. Matuszak, CFA

Senior Equity Analyst – Munder Capital Management

Since 2002 Mr. Matuszak has analyzed equity securities for Munder Capital’s mid-capitalization core growth, mid-cap growth and small-cap/mid-cap blend equity strategies. He is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Detroit. Mr. Matuszak holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from University of Michigan.


Kyle Sable

Principal – Banbury Partners

Mr. Sable is a Principal at Banbury Partners, a long/short hedge fund with Tiger Heritage. He covers a wide range of investments in public equities spanning industrials, consumer, financials, and tech/media/telecom, all with a deep fundamental approach. Mr. Sable previously worked at Bloom Tree Partners and Matrix Capital Management and began his investing career with Bain Capital’s global private equity fund. Mr. Sable holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard Business School.


Prasad Phatak

Managing Member — Tappan Street Partners, LLC

Mr. Phatak is a co-founder and Managing Member of Tappan Street Partners, a special situations and value-oriented hedge fund. Prior to forming Tappan Street in June 2011, Mr. Phatak spent approximately six years at Eton Park Capital Management, L.P. on the Fundamental US Long/Short Equities team. Before Eton Park, Mr. Phatak was a financial analyst at The Blackstone Group L.P. in Restructuring and Reorganization Advisory. Mr. Phatak graduated with high distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business in 2003 with a B.B.A. in Finance and Accounting.


Chris Koranda

Managing Member — Tappan Street Partners, LLC

Mr. Koranda is a co-founder and Managing Member of Tappan Street Partners, a special situations and value-oriented hedge fund. Prior to forming Tappan Street in June 2011, Mr. Koranda managed a portfolio comprised of personal and family money. From 2005 to 2007, Mr. Koranda worked as an analyst at Perry Capital, LLC (“Perry”) as a member of the Healthcare team. From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Koranda was a Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory analyst at The Blackstone Group. Mr. Koranda received a B.B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business in 2003. In 2009, Mr. Koranda graduated with an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
